A House Rabbit Primer: Understanding and Caring for Your Companion Rabbit
By Lucile C. Moore
Edition: illustrated
Published by Santa Monica Press, 2005
ISBN 1891661507, 9781891661501
264 pages

Synopsis

All aspects of rabbit care for both new and experienced pet rabbit owners are discussed in this handbook. Detailed information on how to house, feed, and train rabbits is provided, with a comprehensive medical section on creating a first aid kit, diagnosing different rabbit diseases, and giving emergency care. Rabbits make up one of the fastest-growing segments of the pet population, and with more pet owners choosing to keep their rabbits indoors full time, this guide lays out practical information for making rabbits a healthy part of any family.

Library Journal

This comprehensive manual covers everything readers need to know about keeping rabbits as pets in a well-organized and informative fashion. Moore holds a Ph.D. in biology with a specialty in animal behavior and has worked as a county rabbit superintendent. She also keeps eight rabbits as pets, which makes her qualified to write on the topic. Taking a practical approach, Moore acknowledges both the pleasures and the pitfalls of keeping rabbits as pets. After a brief history of the animal, she discusses the variety of breeds and their characteristics, supplies and cages, nutrition, behavior and communication, and health. Moore's focus is strictly on pet rabbits kept in the home-she does not address large agricultural or breeding operations. Helpful appendixes include listings of rabbit health resources, shelters, and rabbit supply businesses. This book should be required reading for anyone interested in keeping pet rabbits and is recommended for public libraries.-Debby Emerson, Rochester Regional Lib. Council, Fairport, NY Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.

The Big Book of the 70's

Back when irony was just a literary device and people wore bell-bottoms for their own sake, Western civilization reached its zenith and nadir simultaneously. Jonathan Vankin's Big Book of the '70s looks in surprising depth at the trends and the notable figures of that decade, using illustrations from dozens of excellent comics artists like Shary Flenniken and Terry Laban. Richard Nixon, Jane Fonda, Burt Reynolds, and Jimmy Carter all get the Big Book treatment in a delicious combination of behind-the-scenes peeks and easily digested history lessons. Fads and phenomena like disco, running, and the rise of the women's movement are also explained and, in some cases, followed up through modern times. The writing is clear and snappy, the illustration is consistently well-done, and the topics chosen are a thorough, comprehensive mix of lightweight (pet rocks) and serious (Vietnam)
