Description: With the current changes driven by the expansion of the World Wide Web, this book uses a different approach from other books on the market: it applies ontologies to electronically available information to improve the quality of knowledge management in large and distributed organizations. Ontologies are formal theories supporting knowledge sharing and reuse. They can be used to explicitly represent semantics of semi-structured information. These enable sophisticated automatic support for acquiring, maintaining and accessing information. Methodology and tools are developed for intelligent access to large volumes of semi-structured and textual information sources in intra- and extra-, and internet-based environments to employ the full power of ontologies in supporting knowledge management from the information client perspective and the information provider.
The aim of the book is to support efficient and effective knowledge management and focuses on weakly-structured online information sources. It is aimed primarily at researchers in the area of knowledge management and information retrieval and will also be a useful reference for students in computer science at the postgraduate level and for business managers who are aiming to increase the corporations' information infrastructure.

Description: I enjoyed the approach here. The author uses simple, rather concrete examples that allow one to see how fuzzy logic systems work. With the shareware given here it also shows that such systems don't take a lot to construct or work with. As one reviewer says the book doesn't have much on the mathematical theory behind fuzzy logic systems, but the author meants such as a practical approach. And the mathematical theory definitely works as much too much to explain in a work like this. Additionally, the main advantage of using fuzzy systems works as that you don't have to use so much math and bury everything in equations and cryptic symbols. This sort of example makes it easier to see this and work with it.
The knowledge builder shows some ideas as to how one can generate if-then rules in a simple fashion. The decision maker makes the program practically. And the fuzzy cognitive map shows you how fuzzy logic systems can apply to scientific modeling easily.

Description: Using modern statistical software systems requires training both in the software itself and in the underlying statistical methods. Concentrating on the freely available R system, this volume demonstrates recently implemented approaches and methods in statistical analysis. The authors introduce elementary concepts in statistics through examples of real-world data analysis drawn from their experience as teachers and as consultants. R code and data sets for all examples are available on the Internet. This emphasis on practical methodology combined with a tutorial approach makes the book accessible to anyone with a knowledge of undergraduate-level statistics. The methods demonstrated are suitable for use in a wide variety of disciplines, from social sciences to medicine, engineering and science.

Description: "Network programming"--the term had a distinct meaning once, but now it begs the question, "Is there another kind?" That's why Lincoln Stein's Network Programming with Perl is valuable. It shows how one of the world's top Perl authorities brings the language to bear on problems that require communication among computers, showing that you may not have to resort to Java as soon as you may have thought to meet a networking requirement. What's more, Stein doesn't assume you have a lot of Perl expertise. An intermediate-level familiarity with the language should enable you to understand the examples in the book and follow its classic code-and-commentary structure.

Description: This book is aimed at programmers who have learned the basics of Java from, for example, Beginning Java 1.4: From Novice to Professional, and are now ready to learn how to use Java in the real world, with J2EE. But, J2EE is a big spec, and the target audience is not interested in Enterprise JavaBeans and other advanced specs within J2EE. In fact, 75% of J2EE applications are built using only JavaServer Pages and Servlets (two of the simpler technologies to learn in J2EE), so these are the areas that the audience is particularly interested in.

Description: For software development professionals and computer science students, Modern Operating Systems gives a solid conceptual overview of operating system design, including detailed case studies of Unix/Linux and Windows 2000.
What makes an operating system modern? According to author Andrew Tanenbaum, it is the awareness of high-demand computer applications--primarily in the areas of multimedia, parallel and distributed computing, and security. The development of faster and more advanced hardware has driven progress in software, including enhancements to the operating system. It is one thing to run an old operating system on current hardware, and another to effectively leverage current hardware to best serve modern software applications. If you don't believe it, install Windows 3.0 on a modern PC and try surfing the Internet or burning a CD.

Description: Advanced ASIC Chip Synthesis: Using Synopsys® Design Compiler® Physical Compiler® and PrimeTime®, Second Edition describes the advanced concepts and techniques used towards ASIC chip synthesis, physical synthesis, formal verification and static timing analysis, using the Synopsys suite of tools. In addition, the entire ASIC design flow methodology targeted for VDSM (Very-Deep-Sub-Micron) technologies is covered in detail.
The emphasis of this book is on real-time application of Synopsys tools, used to combat various problems seen at VDSM geometries. Readers will be exposed to an effective design methodology for handling complex, sub-micron ASIC designs. Significance is placed on HDL coding styles, synthesis and optimization, dynamic simulation, formal verification, DFT scan insertion, links to layout, physical synthesis, and static timing analysis. At each step, problems related to each phase of the design flow are identified, with solutions and work-around described in detail. In addition, crucial issues related to layout, which includes clock tree synthesis and back-end integration (links to layout) are also discussed at length. Furthermore, the book contains in-depth discussions on the basis of Synopsys technology libraries and HDL coding styles, targeted towards optimal synthesis solution.
Target audiences for this book are practicing ASIC design engineers and masters level students undertaking advanced VLSI courses on ASIC chip design and DFT techniques.
