In the early 1960s, the emergence of the theory of plate tectonics started a revolution in the
earth sciences. Since then, scientists have verified and refined this theory, and now have a much better understanding of how our planet has been shaped by plate-tectonic processes. We now know that, directly or indirectly, plate tectonics influences nearly all geologic processes, past and present. Indeed, the notion that the entire Earth's surface is continually shifting has profoundly changed the way we view our world.

Book Description:
Industrial Engineering (IE) is concerned with the design, improvement, and installation of integrated systems of people, material, equipment, and energy. Industrial engineers face many problems with incomplete and vague information in these systems since the characteristics of these problems often require this kind of information. Fuzzy sets approaches are usually most appropriate when human evaluations and the modeling of human knowledge are needed. IE brings a significant number of applications of fuzzy set theory.
After an introductory chapter explaining the recent status of fuzzy sets in IE, this volume involves application chapters on the major seven areas of IE to which fuzzy set theory can contribute. These major application areas are Control and Reliability, Engineering Economics and Investment Analysis, Group and Multi-criteria Decision-making, Human Factors Engineering and Ergonomics, Manufacturing Systems and Technology Management, Optimization Techniques, and Statistical Decision-making. Under these major areas, every chapter includes didactic numerical applications.

Book Description:
The ASP.NET 2.0 Framework introduced web developers to dozens of new server controls and components, and a greatly expanded and easier structure for writing their own server controls and components. Professional ASP.NET 2.0 Server Control and Component Development covers the breadth of server control functionality as well as the rest of the membership, role management, SchemaImporterExtension, and so on – the functionality referred to as components. Written for the experienced ASP.NET developer, Professional ASP.NET 2.0 Server Control and Component Development will show you how to write your first sever control or custom component.
The step-by-step coverage drills down to the details of the extensible part of the ASP.NET 2.0 Framework that you need to extend to write the specified type of custom control or component. Rather than present the extensible part as a black box, it presents a detailed step-by-step approach to implement functional replica of the extensible part, discusses the replica’s code in detail, and provides an in-depth coverage of the techniques, tools, and technologies used in the code. From there you get a detailed practical recipe for developing the specified type of custom control or component and book then uses the recipe to implement one or more real-world custom controls or components of the specified type that you can use in your own Web applications.
Some of the many types of controls and components you’ll learn to build are:
* Ajax-enabled controls and components: four chapters on Ajax discuss and use Ajax patterns, ASP.NET 2.0 client callback mechanism, CSS, DOM, XML, and JavaScript to implement a number of Ajax-enabled controls and components.
* Web Parts: four chapters on Web Parts in ASP.NET 2.0 develop a number of custom WebPart, EditorPart, CatalogPart, WebPartZone, WebPartChrome, WebPartVerb, WebPartManager, and data-bound WebPart controls.
* 5 chapters on ASP.NET 2.0 security, membership, and role management components
* 5 chapters on ASP.NET 2.0 tabular and hierarchical data source controls and custom Parameter components
* 4 chapters on ASP.NET 2.0 tabular data-bound controls and data control fields
* Developing controls and components that can access any type of data store and automate all their data operations such as Delete, Update, Insert, and Sort.
* XML Web service, WSDL, Google XML Web service API, SchemaImporterExtension, ISerializable, and CodeDom
* XmlReader, XmlWriter, XPathNavigator, DOM, and XmlResolver
* Provider-Based Services including how to implement a RSS service provider that can feed RSS from any type of data store such as SQL Server, file system, Web services, and so on
* HTTP modules, HTTP handler factories, HTTP handlers, and control builders including developing an HTTP module and an HTTP handler factory that perform URL rewriting and an HTTP handler that generates RSS feeds
* User controls and composite and templated custom controls
* State management and custom type converters.
* Events, IPostBackEventHandler, IPostBackDataHandler, and Page lifecycle
This book is also available as part of the 5-book ASP.NET 2.0 Wrox Box (ISBN: 0-470-11757-5). This 5-book set includes:

Only connect!
—E. M. Forster
If you have just a single computer in your home or smalloffice, and if you’re the only person who uses that computer, your setup is inherently efficient.
You can use the machine whenever you like, and everything you need— your applications, your printer, your CD/DVD drive, your Internet connection, and so on—are readily available.
Things become noticeably less efficient if you have to share the computer with other people.
For instance, you might have to wait for someone else to finish a task before you can get your own work done, you might need to have separate applications for each person’s requirements, and you might need to set up separate folders to hold each person’s data.
User accounts and fast user switching in Vista ease these problems, but they don’t eliminate them.
For example, you still have to twiddle a thumb or two while waiting for another person to complete his work.
A better solution is to increase the number of computers available.
Now that machines with fast processors, ample RAM, and massive hard disk space can be had for just a few hundred dollars, a multiple-machine setup is an affordable proposition for most homes.
At home, for example, the current trend is to buy a nice system for Mom and Dad to put in their office, while the kids inherit the old machine for their games and homework assignments.
Now you have several computers kicking around the house or office, but they’re all islands unto themselves.
If you want to print something using another computer’s printer, you’re forced to copy the file to a memory card or other removable media, walk that media over to the other computer, and then print from there.
Similarly, if multiple computers require Internet access, you face the hassle (and expense) of configuring separate connections
So now you must take the final step on this road: Connect everything together to create your own small network.
This will give you all kinds of benefits:
• A printer (or just about any peripheral) that’s attached to one computer can be used by any other computer on the network.
• You can transfer files from one computer to another.
• Users can access disk drives and folders on network computers as though they were part of their own computer.
In particular, you can set up a folder to store common data files, and each user will be able to access these files from the comfort of her machine. (For security, you can restrict access to certain folders and drives.)
• You can set up an Internet connection on one device and share that connection with other machines on the network.
• You can stream images, music, and videos from one computer to another computer or to a digital media receiver, such as an Xbox 360.
• You can set up a wireless portion of your network, which enables you to access other computers and the Internet from just about anywhere in your house or office.

TITLE : Learning PHP Data Objects
TYPE : Computer/Web/Programming
AUTHOR : Dennis Poppel (Author)
PUBLISHER : Packt Publishing
ISBN : 1847192661
PAGES : 188
EDITION : 1st
LANGUAGE : ENGLISH
RELEASE DATE : 20th Jan 2008
RELEASE NOTES :
This book is for PHP developers who need to use PHP Data Objects (PDO) for data abstraction. Covering an overview of PDO, getting started, error handling, prepared statements, handling rowsets, advanced uses, and use in an MVC application, it first describes the topic, then gives step-by-step instructions for a particular example. A final appendix covers the object-oriented features of PHP 5. Readers should be familiar with PHP and aware of the basics of data abstraction. Lighter, faster, more powerful than existing data abstraction interfaces, PDO is an open-source query abstraction layer for accessing databases and manipulating returned records that is used with a database-specific PDO driver to access a particular database. It has the same role as classic database abstraction layers such as ODBC and JDBC. PDO ships with PHP 5.1, and is available as a PECL extension for PHP 5.0; PDO requires the new OO features in the core of PHP 5, and so will not run with earlier versions of PHP.

Gary Halleen, Greg Kellogg, "Security Monitoring with Cisco Security MARS"
Cisco Press; 1 edition (July 16, 2007) | ISBN:1587052709 | 336 pages | PDF | 18,3 Mb
Networks and hosts are probed hundreds or thousands of times a day in an attempt to discover vulnerabilities. An even greater number of automated attacks from worms and viruses stress the same devices. The sheer volume of log messages or events generated by these attacks and probes, combined with the complexity of an analyst needing to use multiple monitoring tools, often makes it impossible to adequately investigate what is happening.
Cisco® Security Monitoring, Analysis, and Response System (MARS) is a next-generation Security Threat Mitigation system (STM). Cisco Security MARS receives raw network and security data and performs correlation and investigation of host and network information to provide you with actionable intelligence. This easy-to-use family of threat mitigation appliances enables you to centralize, detect, mitigate, and report on priority threats by leveraging the network and security devices already deployed in a network, even if the devices are from multiple vendors.
Security Monitoring with Cisco Security MARS helps you plan a MARS deployment and learn the installation and administration tasks you can expect to face. Yannis Haralambous, P Scott Horne, "Fonts & Encodings"
O'Reilly Media, Inc. | ISBN 0596102429 | September 26, 2007 | 1037 pages | PDF | 37.2MB
T his reference is a fascinating and complete guide to using fonts and typography on the Web and across a variety of operating systems and application software. Fonts & Encodings shows you how to take full advantage of the incredible number of typographic options available, with advanced material that covers everything from designing glyphs to developing software that creates and processes fonts.
The era of ASCII characters on green screens is long gone, and industry leaders such as Apple, HP, IBM, Microsoft, and Oracle have adopted the Unicode Worldwide Character Standard. Yet, many software applications and web sites still use a host of standards, including PostScript, TrueType, TeX/Omega, SVG, Fontlab, FontForge, Metafont, Panose, and OpenType.
This book explores each option in depth, and provides background behind the processes that comprise today's "digital space for writing":
* Part I introduces Unicode, with a brief history of codes and encodings including ASCII. Learn about the morass of the data that accompanies each Unicode character, and how Unicode deals with normalization, the bidirectional algorithm, and the handling of East Asian characters.
* Part II discusses font management, including installation, tools for activation/deactivation, and font choices for three different systems: Windows, the Mac OS, and the X Window System (Unix).
* Part III deals with the technical use of fonts in two specific cases: the TeX typesetting system (and its successor, W, which the author co-developed) and web pages.
* Part IV describes methods for classifying fonts: Vox, Alessandrini, and Panose-1, which is used by Windows and the CSS standard. Learn about existing tools for creating (or modifying) fonts, including FontLab and FontForge, and become familiar with OpenType properties and AAT fonts.
Nowhere else will you find the valuable technical information on fonts and typography that software developers, web developers, and graphic artists need to know to get typography and fonts to work properly.

C++/CLI is Microsoft's latest extension to C++ that targets the heart of .NET 2.0, the common language runtime. Expert Visual C++/CLI is written by visual C++ MVP Marcus Heege, who examines the core of the C++/CLI language. He explains both how the language elements work and how Microsoft intends them to be used.
Even if you're new to C++/CLI but are planning to migrate to it from another language, this book will ground you in the core language elements and give you the confidence to explore further and migrate effectively. It provides concise, yet in-depth coverage of all major C++/CLI features: short code examples succinctly illustrate syntax and concepts, and more elaborate examples show how C++/CLI should be used.

With Oracle in the process of de-supporting SQLJ, JDBC is now really the only recommended means of interfacing between Java and Oracle. Consequently, this book is a must have for any developer building an Oracle Java application.
Many Java developers tend to treat Oracle as a "black box"; as a consequence, developers tend to write incorrect, non-scalable code. If you don't intimately know how Oracle works and expects you to program, you might avoid Oracle extensions to the standard for fear of your code becoming database-dependent. If you give in to that fear, you'll miss out on the extensive out-of-the-box functionality that Oracle offers. This book teaches you how to build efficient, high-performance, and robust Oracle-based JDBC applications. You'll discover the full details of Oracle's implementation of the JDBC 3.0 standard (what it supports, what it doesn't and what extensions Oracle provides), and more.
This book tackles issues head-on, detailing concisely and clearly the vital details of Oracle's architecture and mode of operation that directly impact the manner in which JDBC applications should be written. Only when armed with this knowledge, a willingness to exploit the database to its full potential in your JDBC code, and the ability to use Oracle's SQL and PL/SQL features when appropriate, is it possible to write truly efficient, robust, scalable and high performance applications.

Use Case Driven Object Modeling with UML--Theory and Practice shows how to drive an object-oriented software design from use case all the way through coding and testing, based on the minimalist, UML-based ICONIX process. In addition to a comprehensive explanation of the foundations of the approach, the book makes extensive use of examples and provides exercises at the back of each chapter.
This book leads by example. It demonstrates common analysis and design errors, shows how to detect and fix them, and suggests how to avoid making the same errors in the future. The book also encourages you to examine its UML examples and to search for specific errors. You'll get clues, then later receive the answers during "review sessions" toward the end of the book.

O'Reilly - Building the Perfect PC, Second Edition.
by Robert Bruce Thompson, Barbara Fritchman Thompson.
ISBN: 0-596-52686-5, 352 Pages, December 2006.
This popular Build-It-Yourself (BIY) PC book covers everything you want to know about building your own system: Planning and picking out the right components, step-by-step instructions for assem-bling your perfect PC, and an insightful discussion of why you'd want to do it in the first place. Most big brand computers from HP, Dell and others use lower-quality components so they can meet their aggressive pricing targets.
But component manufacturers also make high-quality parts that you can either purchase directly, or obtain through distributors and resellers. Consumers and corporations alike are opting to build rather than buy PCs to ensure high quality and compatibility.
The new edition of Building the Perfect PC shows you how to construct a variety of top-flight systems with the latest technology, including AMD Socket AM-2 and Intel Core 2 processors, that are Vista- and Linux-ready. The book includes several new options, including:
- A Budget PC you can build for approximately $350 that offers performance and reliability similar to that of mainstream systems.
- A full-blown media-center system that runs Linux and MythTV or Windows MCE with multiple tuners and HDTV support.
- A fire-breathing high-performance gaming system.
- A fast, low-power, low-heat, low-noise, Small Form Factor system.
- A low-cost SOHO (small office, home office) server system with a 2 terabyte (2,000 GB) disk subsystem that's suitable for a residential environment rather than a server closet.
Regardless of your technical experience, Building the Perfect PC will guide you through the entire process of building or upgrading your own computer. You'll use the latest top-quality components, including Intel's Core 2 Duo and AMD's Athlon X2 CPU's. And you'll know exactly what's under the hood and how to fix or upgrade your PC, should that become necessary. Not only is the process fun, but the result is often less expensive and always better quality and far more satisfying than anything you could buy off the shelf.

If you are developing databases for your own use, you may not mind opening forms or printing reports directly from the database window, and you know what query to run before printing which report or exporting data to Word. However, if you are planning to create applications for the use of others, particularly for clients who aren’t familiar with Access, and don’t understand databases in general, you have to do a lot more work, mostly in the form of writing VBA code to automate the application’s processes.
As a rule of thumb, it’s generally true that the easier the application is for the end user, the harder (and more time-consuming) it is to develop. In this book I concentrate on teaching you how to set up your tables and relationships to ensure that the database is properly normalized, and write VBA code to create the connective tissue that turns a bunch of tables, queries, forms and reports into a complete and coherent application.
This book is for experienced Access users who are familiar with creating Access objects and writing VBA code, but who need help transitioning from competent users/programmers to full-fledged Access developers.
The book is divided into three parts, each centered around a separate case application. The first shows best methods for building a relatively simple Access application using the developer's own data. The next section shows how to build a distributed application serving multiple clients and types of data. The chapters in this section cover each step in the application lifecycle — from gathering application requirements from clients to migrating data from legacy systems to the new Access database system.
The last section of the book shows how to build Access applications that work with other Office applications, inlcuding Word, Excel, and Outlook, as well as non-Office applications. These integration issues cover some of the thorniest problems an Access developer will face. Feddema's years of experience as an author, consultant, and trainer ensure that she can provide highly original solutions and workarounds.

As a basic introduction to wireless networking, Wireless Networks First-Step assumes that readers have no previous wireless experience. The book provides an overview of wireless networking, along with details of applicable standards and technologies. Newcomers to wireless technologies will find practical information along with an abundance of examples. Case studies throughout the chapters provide real-world implementation examples, presented in a non-technical fashion. Implementation details are discussed only to the extent that readers can identify what type of wireless network may be appropriate for their needs.

Whether you are an experienced Flash designer or developer looking for a guide to doing animation in Flash, or a novice to Flash who is looking for an effective way to create and distribute animations, this book will prove invaluable to you.
Covering every aspect of Flash animation, the book is a fast-paced yet thorough review of the Flash animation process. Written by the Emmy-Award winning team at ANIMAX, this book not only reveals the step-by-step process followed by one of today's leading Flash animation studios, it gives you valuable tips and tricks to take your Flash animation to the next level.
Divided into three phases of production (pre-production, animation, post-production) this book breaks the Flash animation process into smaller, more manageable steps. And because the authors approach the animation process from various perspectives (such as producer, animator, and editor) the book balances many of the real-world issues facing today's Flash animators, from artistic to technical to financial.
The book starts off by looking at planning and designing an animation project, including working out your goals, and putting together character libraries and storyboards. Next up we look at the production phase, which includes using plug-ins to make your work more efficient, implementing your animation, and adding special effects. Finally, we look at post-production work, including how After Effects can be used effectively alongside Flash for tasks such as camera mechanics, how to make Flash not look like Flash, and tips and tricks from the experts.
Whatever the reason, like millions of others around the world you've become interested in Flash animation. And you've come to the right place to learn more. This book is compatible with pretty much any fairly recent version of Flash.

The Definitive Guide to the Microsoft Enterprise Library introduces one of the most exciting and popular .NET-oriented initiatives, the Enterprise Library. The EL offers nine classes of reusable code, or blocks, that are used to solve a variety of common problem spaces. These problems cover a number of topics, including configuration, data access, exception management, caching, application updates, UI separation, asynchronous invocation, logging, security, and XML-based information aggregation.
Author Keenan Newton, a senior consultant for noted Microsoft Partner Magenic, begins the book with an introduction to common challenges, explaining the conditions that brought about the creation of the EL. After an EL overview, subsequent chapters offer detailed information about each of the nine blocks. The book concludes by outlining the framework available for creating custom application blocks.
You'll be able to build .NET applications faster and more efficiently by taking advantage of readily available code developed and released by Microsoft's Patterns and Practices group. All book examples are based on a theme project that develops a point-of-sale application for a cosmetics company. You will be introduced to these technologies in conjunction with real-world scenarios.

Book Description
Windows Vista is Microsoft's most important software release in more than a decade. It offers users an abundance of new and upgraded features that were more than five years in the making: a gorgeous, glass-like visual overhaul; superior searching and organization tools; a multimedia and collaboration suite; and above all, a massive, top-to-bottom security-shield overhaul. There's scarcely a single feature of the older versions of Windows that hasn't been tweaked, overhauled, or replaced entirely.
But when users first encounter this beautiful new operating system, there's gonna be a whole lotta head-scratchin', starting with trying to figure out which of the five versions of Vista is installed on the PC (Home, Premium, Business, Enterprise, Ultimate).
Thankfully, Windows Vista: The Missing Manual offers coverage of all five versions. Like its predecessors, this book from New York Times columnist, bestselling author, and Missing Manuals creator David Pogue illuminates its subject with technical insight, plenty of wit, and hardnosed objectivity for beginners, veteran standalone PC users, and those who know their way around a network. Readers will learn how to:
- Navigate Vista's elegant new desktop
- Locate anything on your hard drive quickly with the fast, powerful, and fully integrated search function
- Use the Media Center to record TV and radio, present photos, play music, and record any of the above to DVD
- Chat, videoconference, and surf the Web with the vastly improved Internet Explorer 7 tabbed browser
- Build a network for file sharing, set up workgroups, and connect from the road
- Protect your PC and network with Vista's beefed up security
- And much more.

Like every other application in Microsoft Office suite, PowerPoint is loaded with features. So many, in fact, that even veterans don't know where to find them all. Microsoft solved this problem in PowerPoint 2007 by redesigning the user interface with a tabbed toolbar that makes features easy to locate and use. PowerPoint 2007 also boasts improved graphics, additional templates, the ability to save custom layouts, and improved collaboration through SharePoint. One thing Microsoft hasn't improved is its poor documentation. To learn the ins and outs of all the features in PowerPoint 2007, Microsoft merely offers online help. If you're familiar with previous versions of the program, you may be lost the first time you fire up the new PowerPoint; or you would be if it weren't for PowerPoint 2007: The Missing Manual.
This new book, written specifically for this version of the software, not only offers the basics of how to create, save, set up, run, and print a basic bullets-and-background slideshow, but takes you into the world of multimedia, animation, and interactivity. You'll learn how to add pictures, sound, video, animated effects, and controls (buttons and links) to their slides, along with ways to pull text, spreadsheets, and animations created in other programs. You can also create your own reusable design templates and learn to automate repetitive tasks with macros. Learn how to take advantage of advanced functions (such as adding custom background images) that existed in previous PowerPoint versions, but were so cleverly hidden that few people ever found them.

Book Description
Microsoft Excel continues to grow in power, sophistication, and capability, but one thing that has changed very little since the early '90s is its user interface. The once-simple toolbar has been packed with so many features over the years that few users know where to find them all. Microsoft has addressed this problem in Excel 2007 by radically redesigning the user interface with a tabbed toolbar that makes every feature easy to locate and use. Unfortunately, Microsoft's documentation is as scant as ever, so even if users can find advanced features, they probably won't know what to do with them.
Excel 2007: The Missing Manual covers the entire gamut of how to build spreadsheets, add and format information, print reports, create charts and graphics, and use basic formulas and functions. Like its siblings in the Missing Manual series, this book crackles with a fine sense of humor and refreshing objectivity about its subject, guiding readers through the new Excel with clear explanations, step-by-step instructions, lots of illustrations, and friendly, time-saving advice. It's a perfect primer for small businesses with no techie to turn to, as well as those who want to organize household and office information.

By reading this book and following the practice exercises scattered liberally throughout the chapters, you can learn to develop powerful and innovative reporting solutions using Microsoft Excel 2003. This book’s step-by-step approach can help you steadily gain confidence in your ability to use Excel’s reporting functions as you enhance your skills by working through the hands-on examples.
You don’t have to know Structured Query Language (SQL) to get real value from this book. However, readers who are familiar with SQL programming will probably get the most out of it. Indeed, many SQL programmers find that Excel report development is the next logical progression in their technology education. Still, even if you are only an experienced user of Excel, you will learn a substantial amount about Excel reporting, especially in the earlier chapters where the graphical Excel tools are used to build SQL queries that run against external data sources such as delimited files, spreadsheets, databases, and data cubes.
If you’re new to Excel reports, you should start with Part I of the book. Advanced users who are already familiar with Excel’s reporting features and with external data sources can skip to Part II, where the core features, functions, and components of Excel reports are covered. The appendixes in Part III provide references for installing the NorthwindCS database, configuring your Windows operating system to display extensions for known file types, and using basic SQL.

Welcome to the second edition of Professional Crystal Reports for Visual Studio .NET. Crystal Reports is one of the world’s leading software packages for creating interactive reports that can be integrated into a wide range of Windows and Web applications. With more than four million licenses shipped, Crystal Reports is the leader among Windows report writers. Crystal Reports has been in the Visual Studio box since 1993, but with the introduction of Visual Studio .NET 2002, a new version, Crystal Reports .NET, was integrated more closely than ever before. And with the release of Visual Studio .NET 2003, the bar has been raised even higher, with tighter integration and more reporting options. This book will detail the functionality provided with Crystal Reports for Visual Studio .NET 2003 and how, when, and where you should integrate reports into your .NET applications.
This book does not attempt to be all-inclusive, and it will not teach basic .NET techniques. To be able to deliver a functional guide to Crystal Reports for Visual Studio .NET, we assume that you have a grasp of essential programming techniques — in this case, a knowledge of programming in Visual Basic .NET and experience using Visual Studio .NET — and that you can apply these skills to a new technology.
This book is for programmers who want a comprehensive guide to the functionality included with Crystal Reports for Visual Studio .NET. It’s assumed that you have some knowledge of .NET and experience with Visual Studio .NET.
It is mainly aimed at readers who have some experience with Crystal Reports. However, this edition has been specifically updated to include a large section on report design, which can assist new users in learning how to create their own reports. This title should also prove valuable for readers who are new to reporting in general and who want a guide to this free reporting tool they’ve discovered within Visual Studio .NET.
This book covers the features of Crystal Reports for Visual Studio .NET that you’ll find yourself using time and again to build complex reports and integrate them into different .NET applications. We start by explaining how Crystal Reports fits into the .NET platform and how it differs from previous versions of Crystal Reports.

The intent of this book is to offer a basic introduction to wireless network applications, components, and technologies. These concepts provide a solid basis for understanding various wireless network topics in more detail. After reading this book, you'll be able to effectively continue a study of specific wireless networks.
This book was written for anyone beginning a study of wireless networks. There is no need for readers to have a technical background. CEOs, managers, and business owners will benefit from reading this book, as will engineers and technicians. Even users wanting to understand the inner workings of wireless networks will find this book interesting.

Perry Harovas, Peter Lee, John L. Kundert-Gibbs, "Mastering Maya Complete 2"
Sybex | ISBN: 0782125212 | January 2000 | 842 pages | PDF | 9.5MB
Learning to use every aspect of Alias Wavefront's Maya can be challenging. Maya is a powerful, complex tool, but some artists devote themselves to using only one or two features, like modeling, particle animation, lighting, or animation. The authors of Mastering Maya Complete 2 have tried to cover every aspect of the program within this book, and the result is a balanced overview of the entire program that lays a solid foundation for anyone climbing the Maya learning curve.
The book contains six major sections: fundamentals, modeling, animation, Maya's scripting language, rendering, and advanced Maya effects. Individual chapters delve into the details of Maya's feature set, mostly with tutorials demonstrating their use. Sidebar tips appear on almost every page, and the authors have made liberal use of screen shots.
The opening chapter sets the tone for this voluminous book as an introductory tutorial to building a complete scene. A simple model is created and textured, lights are added, and the model becomes animated and rendered. While this section isn't heavy on detail, the project is complete and offers a whole overview of the Maya project cycle. The rest of the book covers features like the modeling tools, animation tools, and advanced effects in greater depth.

The third and final section of the book covers more advanced issues in ASP.NET including data access and security issues.

Real World Image Sharpening with Adobe Photoshop CS2
Publisher: Peachpit Press; 1st edition (July 18, 2006) | ISBN: 0321449916 | CHM | 29,3 Mb | 304 pages
It's a sad but undeniable fact of life: Whether you scan, shoot, or capture, the process of digitizing images introduces softness, and to get great-looking results, you'll need to sharpen the great majority of digital images. The softness introduced during digitizing results from the very nature of the digitizing process. To represent images digitally, we must transform them from continuous gradations of tone and color to points on a grid. In the process details gets "averaged" into the pixels, softening the overall appearance. For some types of printed output, further softness is introduced when the image pixels are converted to dots of ink or toner. As a result, just about every digital image requires sharpening. But another sad fact of digital photography is that most images are sharpened badly--either not enough, too much, or using the wrong methods--creating chunky details and harsh edges. Author, Bruce Fraser is here to teach readers all they need to know about sharpening including when to use it, why it's needed, how to use the camera's features, how to recognize an image needs sharpening, how much to use, what's bad sharpening and how to fix over sharpening.

Photoshop Workflow Setups: Eddie Tapp on Digital Photography
Publisher: O'Reilly Media; Illustrate edition (August 1, 2006) | ISBN: 0596101686 | CHM | 0,25 Mb | 197 pages
Leery of 800-page books that try to teach you everything about digital photography? You should be. Rather than delve into the nuances of efficient workflow, color management, or creating spectacular enhancements, these doorstop volumes tend to gloss over key information in an attempt to cover everything.
Our new book series, Eddie Tapp on Digital Photography, is different. An award-winning photographer, Eddie is acknowledged as one of the premier trainers of digital imaging in the world, a highly sought-after expert who educates many corporations, studios and agencies. In this series, he brings his teaching experience to bear on technical issues in six focused and affordable books on digital photography that offer one topic per volume with answers that are quick to find when you need them most.
The first book, Photoshop Workflow Setups: Eddie Tapp on Digital Photography, offers a step-by-step approach for configuring key areas of Adobe Photoshop CS2 to create an efficient, visually uncluttered workspace. Photoshop has so many different work areas and tools that it can become confusing or even intimidating for digital photographers to use in a production environment-whether you're a serious amateur or a working professional.
This highly-visual, well-designed book presents Photoshop's vast collection of menus, palettes, and tools, showing you not only how they work, but how they should work for you and your specific needs.

Book Description

Written for experienced developers, this guide explains how to work with the .NET framework classes of controls and build custom controls for Windows forms and web form pages.
One of the reasons I wrote this book is to address the needs of .NET developers who require controls that don’t yet exist. Most businesses have specific needs that only a custom control can satisfy—from custom corporate e- mail plug-ins, to a custom control that manages user security in various applications, to a reusable intranet control that tracks customer calls and routes them to the appropriate location.
Another reason I wrote this book is that you might just have the next “big idea” for a commercial control that can be sold to developers around the globe but don’t know where to start. The booming market for controls shows there is always room for another tool that saves developers precious resources.
And finally, I wrote this book to satisfy the intellectual curiosity of advanced developers. If you’re like me, you thrive in finding and understanding the cornucopia of new classes and methodologies in .NET that can’t be found in other books. Understanding the .NET Framework classes for controls and designers not only makes you a more valued professional but also allows you to take an idea from one source and meld it with another in ways not done before—the so called ah-ha effect. If you fall into any or all of these three categories, this book is for you.

Chapter 02 - Understanding Visual Basic .NET Intrinsic Windows Forms Controls
Chapter 03 - Advanced Use of Intrinsic .NET Controls

Book Description
This is an introduction to the grammar of words. Geert Booij introduces the basic methods of morphological analysis and shows how these can be used to reveal how words are formed, compounded, and inflected in different languages. He then describes the relationship of morphology to syntax, phonology, and semantics, and shows how the main aspects of grammar interact to make languages work. He ends by examining the universal characteristics of morphology. He discusses the ways in
which these reflect the organization of the mind's language faculty and considers whether they throw light on the way languages change and are learned.

Book Description
Microsoft Word has grown considerably in power, sophistication and capability over the past decade, but one thing that hasn't changed since the early '90s is its user interface. The simple toolbar in version 2.0 has been packed with so many features since then that few users know where to find them all. Consequently, more and more people are looking for "insider" tips that will allow them to use these advanced and often hidden features. Microsoft has addressed this problem in Word 2007 by radically redesigning the user interface with a tabbed toolbar that makes every feature easy to locate and use. Unfortunately, Microsoft's documentation is as scant as ever, so even though you will be able to find advanced features, you might not know what to do with them.
Word 2007: The Missing Manual, written specifically for this version of the software, explains basics like how to create documents, enter and edit text, format, print, and fax. You will will also learn how to create sophisticated page layouts, insert forms and tables, use graphics, and create book-length documents with outlines and Master Documents. Coverage also includes how to share documents with other people and programs, create web pages, automate documents with fields, and automate tasks with macros and the Visual Basic scripting language. This book shows you how to do it all.

Like all books in the Bible series, you can expect to find both hands-on tutorials and real-world practical applications, as well as reference and background information that provides a context for what you are learning. However, to cover every minute detail of every command of this very complex product would consume thousands of pages, so it is the second goal of this book to provide a concise yet comprehensive guide to SQL Server 2005 based on the information I have found most useful in my experience as a database developer, consultant, and instructor. By the time you have completed the SQL Server 2005 Bible, you will be well prepared to develop and manage your SQL Server 2005 database.
Whether you are a database developer or a database administrator, whether you are just starting out, have one year of experience or five, this book contains material that will be useful to you. This book is written so that you can learn from my experience and the experience of the co-authors. Each chapter begins with the assumption that you’ve never seen the topic before, and then progresses through the subject, presenting the information that makes a difference.

Replication is a way of copying and updating information in a database. This allows all users to see the same information and any changes made to it. Replication also duplicates the database across a number of computers so that, if one computer goes down, the information is not lost and can still be accessed. Pro SQL Server 2005 Replication, written by Sujoy Paul, a Microsoft Certified Professional for SQL Server, focuses on this most critical and complex of data management tasks.
This book is for Microsoft database developers and administrators who want to learn about the different types of replication and those best suited to SQL Server 2005. The book will also delve into advanced topics like replication of SQL Server with heterogeneous databases, replication of different database objects like stored procedures, backup and recovery of replicated databases, plus performance and tuning. This book is an ideal read whether youre a novice or advanced replication user.

Of all the English grammar books I know, this is the BEST one for INTERMEDIATE level students (that is, for those who know some English but need a systematic review of the grammar).
Eastwood and Mackin's book is PRACTICAL: it contains most of the things necessary in everyday speech or simple writing, but not more. The structuring of the chapters is great: on the left you find SENTENCES illustrating the key point, on the right they are EXPLAINED IN A SIMPLE WAY.
I recommend that you GET THE EXERCISE BOOK too (A Basic English Grammar Exercises by J. Eastwood) and use them together: do the exercises, check your answers and if you made many mistakes, review the corresponding chapter from the grammar book. I used this method for self-study and I found it very efficient.
Although Basic English Grammar does teach you the vast majority of the practical grammar, you may also want to get "Practical English Usage" by Michael Swan to check some of the more advanced points that you come across now and then. These three books are all you'll ever need on English grammar, unless you want to be professional in English (like a translator, university professor, etc.).
Warning: contrary to what the publisher says, Basic English Grammar is NOT FOR BEGINNERS! Since all the explanations are in English, those who cannot read English relatively fluently, may find studying from this book frustrating. I believe beginners should learn from books that explain the basics of grammar in their native language.

Book Description:
Endoscopic access to the small intestine has for a long time presented a challenge to physicians. Although capsule endoscopy can provide an endoscopic image from the entire small intestine, neither biopsy nor endoscopic treatment can be performed with it. In order to make more definitive diagnoses of abnormal findings detected by capsule endoscopy, a new system incorporating greater insertability and maneuverability is required. Double-balloon endoscopy, which enables endoscopic observation of the entire small intestine, represents such a new system. The chapters of this book describe the principles, insertion technique, and clinical applications of double-balloon endoscopy, which will become the gold standard of enteroscopy and may well eliminate the need for intraoperative enteroscopy in many patients. As such, this book will provide an invaluable source of reference for all practitioners working in the field.
