Clare Churcher’s Beginning SQL Queries is your guide to mastering the lingua franca of the database industry: the SQL language. Good knowledge of SQL is crucial to anyone working with databases, because it is with SQL that you retrieve data, manipulate data, and generate business results. Knowing how to write good queries is the foundation for all work done in SQL, and it is a foundation that Clare lays well in her book.
* Does not bore with syntax!
* Helps you learn the underlying concepts involved in querying a database, and from there the syntax is easy
* Provides exceptionally clear examples and explanations
* Is academically sound while being practical and approachable
What you’ll learn
* Write simple queries to extract data from a single table.
* Understand relational algebra and calculus and why they are important.
* Combine data from many tables into one business result.
* Avoid pitfalls and traps such as Cartesian products and difficulties with null values.
* Summarize large amounts of data for reporting purposes.
* Apply set theory to the problems of manipulating data and generating reports.
Who is this book for?
Beginning SQL Queries is aimed at intelligent laypeople who need to extract information from a database, and at developers and other IT people who are new to SQL. The book is especially useful for business intelligence analysts who must ask more complex questions of their database than their GUI–based reporting software supports. Such people might be business owners wanting to target specific customers, scientists and students needing to extract subsets of their research data, or end users wanting to make the best use of databases for their clubs and societies.

ISBN 13 : 9781590597477
Language : English
Pages : 430
File type : PDF
Size : 7.1 MB (book + source code)

This book will show you how to create documents of your own so you can share them on the web. You’ll become intimately familiar with the rules and constructs of HyperText Markup Language (HTML), the computer language the web is built on. It’s a simple language, and the basic rules are easy to pick up and put to use. HTML is a tool, and once you know how to use it, you’re limited only by your imagination.

This book is for anyone interested in learning how to build web pages from the ground up using modern best practices. We assume you’re familiar with the Internet and the World Wide Web, and you probably wouldn’t pick up a book with “HTML” in the title unless you’d at least heard of it. Beyond that, we don’t assume any prior knowledge of web design or computer programming. As you advance through this book, the topics get a little more advanced as well. But fear not: this is a book for beginners, and we’ll walk you through the tough parts.

Even if you’re not a beginner, this may be well worth a read. Only a few short years ago, the common approach to building web pages was very different from how things are done today. A lot has changed in recent times, so if you’re a more experienced web developer looking to get back to basics and see what all this “semantic XHTML and CSS” mumbo-jumbo is about, this is the book for you.

Here we present a brief road map of where this book is going to take you. The first two chapters lead you through the bare essentials you’ll need to start creating your own web documents. Throughout the bulk of this book, Chapters 3 through 10, you’ll dig into different subject areas within HTML and XHTML, becoming familiar with all of the different elements at your disposal. Along the way, you’ll also see examples of some of the many CSS techniques you might use to visually design your pages. We finish up with Chapter 11, where you’ll see a case study that takes much of what you’ve learned throughout the previous chapters and puts it together into a functional website, built from scratch with XHTML and CSS.

" TCP/IP Sockets in C#: Practical Guide for Programmers (The Practical Guides) "
Morgan Kaufmann | Pages:175 | 2004-04-29 | ISBN: 0124660517 | PDF | 1 Mb

Product Description:

"TCP/IP sockets in C# is an excellent book for anyone interested in writing network applications using Microsoft .Net frameworks. It is a unique combination of well written concise text and rich carefully selected set of working examples. For the beginner of network programming, it's a good starting book; on the other hand professionals could also take advantage of excellent handy sample code snippets and material on topics like message parsing and asynchronous programming."
Adarsh Khare, SDT, .Net Frameworks Team, Microsoft Corporation

The popularity of the C# language and the .NET framework is ever rising due to its ease of use, the extensive class libraries available in the .NET Framework, and the ubiquity of the Microsoft Windows operating system, to name a few advantages. TCP/IP Sockets in C# focuses on the Sockets API, the de facto standard for writing network applications in any programming language. Starting with simple client and server programs that use TCP/IP (the Internet protocol suite), students and practitioners quickly learn the basics and move on to firsthand experience with advanced topics including non-blocking sockets, multiplexing, threads, asynchronous programming, and multicasting. Key network programming concepts such as framing, performance and deadlocks are illustrated through hands-on examples. Using a detailed yet clear, concise approach, this book includes numerous code examples and focused discussions to provide a solid understanding of programming TCP/IP sockets in C#.

Features
*Tutorial-based instruction in key sockets programming techniques complemented by numerous code examples throughout
*Discussion moves quickly into the C# Sockets API definition and code examples, desirable for those who want to get up-to-speed quickly
*Important coverage of "under the hood" details that developers will find useful when creating and using a socket or a higher level TCP class that utilizes sockets
*Includes end-of-chapter exercises to facilitate learning, as well as sample code available for download at the books companion web site

John Laurence Miller "Mind Magic "
McGraw-Hill | Pages: 282 | 2004-09-08 | ISBN:0071433201 | PDF | 1 Mb

Product Description:

The key to unleashing the mind's power, increased intelligence, and creativity

Widely considered one of the great thinkers of the 20th century, Swiss psychologist Jean Piaget did for intelligence and mental development what Freud did for personality. In Mind Magic, a former Piaget student builds upon his teacher's pioneering work to offer you a program for unleashing the power of your mind. The key, according to John Miller, is learning "mind consciousness," or how one thinks best. Combining problem-solving and learning techniques from a variety of fields, including psychology, education, and computer science, he shows you how to observe your mind at work and use that knowledge to:

* Dramatically enhance the three aspects of intelligence crucial in the modern world: adaptability, creativity, and information management
* Make logic and emotion work together
* Gain the confidence needed to aim for higher intellectual achievement
