The Poor Man's James Bond is a four book series originally intended for the survivalist-minded, compiled by Kurt Saxon. Much of the content of these books consists of reprints of old books now in the public domain. Although compared to other paramilitary manuals such as The Anarchist Cookbook, the Poor Man's James Bond is much more relevant to modern day survivalism. It also contained a full U.S. Army self defense manual along with a gunsmithing workshop.

The Israel/Palestine Question (Rewriting Histories)

The Israel/Palestine Question (Rewriting Histories) free ebook download.

An explicitly revisionist collection that takes the ground away from pro-Israeli historians and suggests a far more nuanced view of the issue, The Israel/Palestine Question assimilates diverse interpretations of the origins of the Middle East

conflict with emphasis on the fight for Palestine and its religious and political roots. Drawing largely on scholarly debates in Israel during the last two decades, which have become known as `historical revisionism,' the collection presents the mostrecent developments in the historiography of the Arab-Israeli conflict and a critical reassessment of Israel's past. The volume commences with an overview of Palestinian history and the origins of modern Palestine, and includes essays on the earlyZionist movement, the 1948 war, international influences on the conflict and the Intifada.

Business Fluctuations and Cycles

Business Fluctuations and Cycles free ebook download.

The business cycle or economic cycle refers to the periodic fluctuations of economic activity about its long term growth trend. The cycle involves shifts over time between periods of relatively rapid growth of output (recovery and prosperity),

alternating with periods of relative stagnation or decline (contraction or recession). These fluctuations are often measured using the real gross domestic product. One of the government's main roles is to smooth out the business cycle and reduce itsfluctuations. To call those alternances 'cycles' is rather misleading as they don't tend to repeat at fairly regular time intervals. Most observers find that their lengths (from peak to peak, or from trough to trough) vary, so that cycles are notmechanical in their regularity.Since no two cycles are alike in their details, some economists dispute the existence of cycles and use the word 'fluctuations' (or the like) instead. Others see enough similarities between cycles that the cycle is avalid basis of studying the state of the economy. A key question is whether or not there are similar mechanisms that generate recessions and/or booms that exist in capitalist economies so that the dynamics that appear as a cycle will be seen againand again. This new book presents leading-edge research in this field.

The Cradle of American Paleontology

Big Bone Lick: The Cradle of American Paleontology free ebook download.

Shawnee legend tells of a herd of huge bison rampaging through the Ohio Valley, laying waste to all in their path. To protect the tribe, a deity slew these great beasts with lightning bolts, finally chasing the

last giant buffalo into exile across the Wabash River, never to trouble the Shawnee again. The source of this legend was a peculiar salt lick in present-day northern Kentucky, where giant fossilized skeletons had for centuries lain undisturbed by theShawnee and other natives of the region.  In 1739, the first Europeans encountered this fossil site, which eventually came to be known as Big Bone Lick. The site drew theattention of all who heard of it, including George Washington, Daniel Boone, Benjamin Franklin, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, and especially Thomas Jefferson. The giant bones immediately cast many scientific and philosophical assumptions of theday into doubt, and they eventually gave rise to the study of fossils for biological and historical purposes. Big Bone Lick: The Cradle of American Paleontology recountsthe rich history of the fossil site that gave the world the first evidence of the extinction of several mammalian species, including the American mastodon. Big Bone Lick has played many roles: nutrient source, hallowed ground, salt mine, health spa,and a rich trove of archaeological and paleontological wonders. Natural historian Stanley Hedeen presents a comprehensive narrative of Big Bone Lick from its geological formation forward, explaining why the site attracted animals, regionaltribespeople, European explorers and scientists, and eventually American pioneers and presidents. Big Bone Lick is the history of both a place and a scientific discipline:it explores the infancy and adolescence of paleontology from its humble and sometimes humorous beginnings. Hedeen combines elements of history, geology, politics, and biology to make Big Bone Lick a valuable historical resource as well as thecompelling tale of how a collection of fossilized bones captivated a young nation.   (20071128)

And Other Astounding September 11 Mysteries Explored

Phantom Flight 93: And Other Astounding September 11 Mysteries Explored free ebook download.

Could September 11's Flight 93 be the key to unraveling the entire 9-11 mystery? In Phantom Flight 93 - the first and only book to emerge from the 9-11 truth movement on this subject - you will discover how this event in Shanksville could very well

be the smoking gun which exposes the government's falsehoods once and for all. Starting with physical evidence - especially a 10x12 foot crater in an abandoned strip mine - it becomes clear that a passenger jetliner could not have possibly crashed inShanksville, Pennsylvania where federal officials said it did. Rather, the reality of that fateful morning is much more troublesome, and far more sinister. Also revealed in this book are a plethora of lies concerning the now-infamous cell phone callspurportedly made by individuals such as Todd Beamer, 9-11 passenger list oddities, corrupt officials who have been covering up this matter, and the many inexplicable anomalies surrounding the Sept. 11 attacks on America and the fate of Flight 93. Fortoo long, Flight 93 has been overlooked by researchers and commentators in the alternative media. With the arrival of Phantom Flight 93, the public will finally see that they were deceived not only about the World Trade Center towers and thePentagon, but also about an unproven crash in southwest PA which became the stuff of legend, but was ultimately nothing more than a poorly executed hoax.

Archaeologies of Late-Historical Britain

The Familiar Past: Archaeologies of Late-Historical Britain free ebook download.

The Familiar Past challenges the popular perception that archaeologists are people who dig up things from the prehistorical or classical world. A survey of material culture from 1500 to the present day, this collection demonstrates how its study can

bring a new understanding to what we think of as the known past.In fourteen case studies, grouped under related topics, the editors draw together current interpretive work explicitly influenced by recent methodological and theoreticaldevelopments. Discussion of issues include the origins of modernity in urban contexts, the historical anthropology of food, the social and spatial construction of country houses, the social history of workhouse sites, changes in memorial forms andinscriptions, and the archaeological treatment of gardens.

Handbook of Worldwide Postal Reform (Advances in Regulatory Economics)

Handbook of Worldwide Postal Reform (Advances in Regulatory Economics) free ebook download.

The postal and delivery sector has been the subject of considerable interest in recent years. This book brings together a number of contributions directed at understanding developments in the field of postal reform. The authors review the experience

and plans of individual countries to provide some perspective on the problems faced in the area and the varied approaches being taken to address it. They also review key elements of policy and strategy that are important in this debate. Gradualchange occurred throughout the world's postal systems during the 1990s and into the 21st century. These regulatory and legal developments, together with advances in micro-electronics, fiber optics, and with the possibility of electronic substitution, continue to have a major impact on the sector.Regulatory changes have been most visible in Europe with the approval of the 3rd Postal Directive for the European Union in 2008. However, Europe has not been alone in facing these changes, as reformlegislation in the US has also attempted to respond to changes in postal markets with the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act of 2006 (PAEA). Similar trends toward restructuring and reform of the sector are evident in other countries as well. This comprehensive book analyses and describes the forces underlying these changes, the nature of the responses to them at the country and regional level and some of the major challenges that postal operators, postal customers and regulators arelikely to encounter in the future. Scholars and students of regulation in general and those specifically interested in the postal and delivery sector will find this volume invaluable, as will policymakers and professionals within the industry.

A Theory of Sentience

A Theory of Sentience free ebook download.

Austen Clark offers a general account of the forms of mental representation that we call "sensory." Drawing on the findings of current neuroscience, Clark defends the hypothesis that the various modalities of sensation share a generic form that he

calls "feature-placing." Sensing proceeds by picking out place-times in or around the body of the sentient organism, and characterizing qualities (features) that appear at those place-times. The hypothesis casts light on many other troublesomephenomena, including the varieties of illusion, the problem of projection, the notion of a visual field, and the existence of sense-data.

Collegiate and Community Culture in the Bluegrass, 1880-1917 (The Thomas D. Clark Studies in Education)

Taking the Town: Collegiate and Community Culture in the Bluegrass, 1880-1917 (The Thomas D. Clark Studies in Education) free ebook download.

The relationship between a town and its local institutions of higher education is often fraught with turmoil. The complicated tensions between the identity of a city and the character of a university can challenge

both communities. Lexington, Kentucky, displays these characteristic conflicts, with two historic educational institutions within its city limits: Transylvania University, thefirst college west of the Allegheny Mountains, and the University of Kentucky, formerly “State College.” An investigative cultural history of the town that called itself “The Athens of the West,” Taking the Town: Collegiate and CommunityCulture in Lexington, Kentucky, 1880–1917 depicts the origins and development of this relationship at the turn of the twentieth century. Lexington’s location in the upperSouth makes it a rich region for examination. Despite a history of turmoil and violence, Lexington’s universities serve as catalysts for change. Until the publication of this book, Lexington was still characterized by academic interpretations thatlargely consider Southern intellectual life an oxymoron. Kolan Thomas Morelock illuminates how intellectual life flourished in Lexington from the period following Reconstruction to the nation’s entry into the First World War. Drawing from local newspapers and other primary sources from around the region, Morelock offers a comprehensive look at early town-gown dynamics in a city of contradictions. He illuminatesLexington’s identity by investigating the lives of some influential personalities from the era, including Margaret Preston and Joseph Tanner. Focusing on literary societies and dramatic clubs, the author inspects the impact of social andeducational university organizations on the town’s popular culture from the Gilded Age to the Progressive Era. Morelock’s work is an enlightening analysis of the intersection between student and citizenintellectual life in the Bluegrass city during an era of profound change and progress. Taking the Town explores an overlooked aspect of Lexington’s history during a time in which the city was establishing its cultural and intellectualidentity. (20080215)
