There is an ever-growing supply of information about the Global Positioning System. Unfortunately, these new (and now, some not so new) documents seem to be located at each end of the comprehension scale: either at the "gee-whiz" level which basically describes how interesting and useful this new utility is, or at the engineer's level which starts out with Keplerian orbits and Hopfield Modeling. What seems to be missing is a comprehensive, yet easy to understand, presentation of the Global Positioning System (GPS) for people who may have a very real need to apply this new technology but lack the basic understanding necessary to make important, and often expensive, decisions about it. Thus this book.
This book is designed to support an introductory course on the fundamentals of the Global Positioning System based on a series of graphic representations and distilled concept-bullets. Math is scrupulously avoided-that level of information is readily available through numerous highly technical publications and is no more necessary for most users than is a textbook on electronics necessary for the purchaser of a television set.
Each concept is presented in one to four graphics found in this book on the left page of each page-pair. The opposing right page presents a brief discussion of the concept. While much more could be said on each of the topics presented, only those highlights considered by the author to be of most immediate value to the geographer, project manager, field Read more...
Continuing a bestselling tradition, An Introduction to Cryptography, Second Edition provides a solid foundation in cryptographic concepts that features all of the requisite background material on number theory and algorithmic complexity as well as a historical look at the field. With numerous additions and restructured material, this edition presents the ideas behind cryptography and the applications of the subject. The first chapter provides a thorough treatment of the mathematics necessary to understand cryptography, including number theory and complexity, while the second chapter discusses cryptographic fundamentals, such as ciphers, linear feedback shift registers, modes of operation, and attacks. The next several chapters discuss DES, AES, public-key cryptography, primality testing, and various factoring methods, from classical to elliptical curves. The final chapters are comprised of issues pertaining to the Internet, such as pretty good privacy (PGP), protocol layers, firewalls, and cookies, as well as applications, including login and network security, viruses, smart cards, and biometrics. The book concludes with appendices on mathematical data, computer arithmetic, the Rijndael S-Box, knapsack ciphers, the Silver-Pohlig-Hellman algorithm, the SHA-1 algorithm, radix-64 encoding, and quantum cryptography. New to the Second Edition: ? An introductory chapter that provides more information on mathematical facts and complexity theory ? Expanded and updated exercises sets, Read more...
Andries P. Engelbrecht, “Computational Intelligence: An Introduction “
Wiley; 2 edition (December 10, 2007) | ISBN: 0470035617 | 628 pages | PDF | 3,7 Mb
Computational Intelligence: An Introduction, Second Edition offers an in-depth exploration into the adaptive mechanisms that enable intelligent behaviour in complex and changing environments. The main focus of this text is centred on the computational modelling of biological and natural intelligent systems, encompassing swarm intelligence, fuzzy systems, artificial neutral networks, artificial immune systems and evolutionary computation.

In todays information age, scientists and engineers must quickly and efficiently analyze extremely large sets of data. One of the best tools to accomplish this is Interactive Data Language (IDL®), a programming and visualization environment that facilitates numerical modeling, data analysis, and image processing. IDLs high-level language and powerful graphics capabilities allow users to write more flexible programs much faster than is possible with other programming languages.
An Introduction to Programming with IDL enables students new to programming, as well as those with experience in other programming languages, to rapidly harness IDLs capabilities: fast, interactive performance; array syntax; dynamic data typing; and built-in graphics. Each concept is illustrated with sample code, including many complete short programs.
·Margin notes throughout the text quickly point readers to the relevant sections of IDL manuals
·End-of-chapter summaries and exercises help reinforce learning
·Students who purchase the book are eligible for a substantial discount on a student version of the IDL software
