TagsMaking WIN32 Applications Mobile Porting   [edit]

In an increasingly mobile world, millions of developers with Windows programming experience need to quickly transfer their skills to creating compact, asynchronous CE applications. This book presents a roadmap to guide developers through the intricate tasks of porting and reworking Win32 applications to enable them to run efficiently and usefully on Windows CE-based mobile devices. * Presents a set of metrics for developers to determine when and how best to proceed in porting Win32 applications * Shows developers how to understand the embedded-system bias inherent in Windows CE and how to write applications that use this as a strength * Covers Unicode, which is mandatory for Windows CE, and explains how to consider the effect of various screen resolutions A key resource to learn how to repurpose Windows applications for handheld devices When handheld computers were power-hungry and memory-poor, synchronizing calendars and perhaps reading e-mail were all the applications most people needed. Now that handhelds have more power than first-generation desktop computers, the opportunity to do more than offer subsets of preexisting information is wide open. Enter Windows CE, a subset of Windows that has been optimized for handheld devices. In this book, experienced CE developer Nancy Nicolaisen provides an ideal reference and road map for directly porting Win32 applications when it s possible, and a set of metrics that can be used to determine how best to proceed when it isn t Read more...

TagsApplications Discrete Mathematics and its   [edit]

This text is designed for the sophomore/junior level introduction to discrete mathematics taken by students preparing for future coursework in areas such as math, computer science and engineering. Rosen has become a bestseller largely due to how effectively it addresses the main portion of the discrete market, which is typically characterized as the mid to upper level in rigor. The strength of Rosen's approach has been the effective balance of theory with relevant applications, as well as the overall comprehensive nature of the topic coverage. Reviews: Summary: Great buy Rating: 5 Purchased for computer science course since it was required. Great price, good book. Summary: A good book Rating: 5 I like this book and use it for teaching my students. As a teacher, you have the opportunity to select similar problems for class activity and homework assignment. Also, you can find not only simple and middle-level problems but also high-level problems to provide a good source for active students. Unfortunately, the author uses the letters "F" and "T" in the truth tables instead of much easier and perspective "0" and "1", which correspond to the real needs, e.g., in computer science. That's the most essential lack, which I've found by this time. Summary: This book is interesting Rating: 4 I like the exclamations and the concepts/problem solving this book teaches. Maybe I am being swayed by the subject because I enjoy it, however, in comparison to other math boo Read more...

TagsMatrices Theory and Applications   [edit]

In this book, Denis Serre begins by providing a clean and concise introduction to the basic theory of matrices. He then goes on to give many interesting applications of matrices to different aspects of mathematics and also other areas of science and engineering. The book mixes together algebra, analysis, complexity theory and numerical analysis. As such, this book will provide many scientists, not just mathematicians, with a useful and reliable reference. It is intended for advanced undergraduate and graduate students with either applied or theoretical goals. This book is based on a course given by the author at the Ecole Normale Superieure de Lyon. Denis Serre is Professor of Mathematics at Ecole Normale Superieure de Lyon and a former member of the Institut Universaire de France. He is a member of numerous editorial boards and the author of Systems of Conservation Laws (Cambridge University Press 2000). The present book is a translation of the original French edition, Les Matrices: Theorie et Pratique, published by Dunod (2001). From the reviews: "This is a first-year graduate text that will be of considerable value to students with any of a wide variety of potential research objectives. Both the proofs and the general explanations are unusually detailed:There are 165 well-designed exercises, many of which provide additional information on topics treated in the text." (Mathematical Reviews) "The main motivation of the author is to : obtain a textbook that is suita Read more...

TagsProgramming ServerSide Applications for Microsoft   [edit]

Enterprise developers take an in-depth tour of Windows 2000 services-the powerful features and subsystems designed specifically to handle mission-critical data processing needs-and get expert guidance for designing and implementing applications that exploit their capabilities. With coverage of the Service Control Manager, Registry, performance monitoring, event logging, security, asynchronous I/O, and other key topics-plus a CD-ROM packed with next-generation 64-bit Windows code examples-this book provides timely and substantive instruction for creating a powerful new class of enterprise solutions. An ever-growing number of applications are being developed for the Windows server platform. As more companies come to rely on this burgeoning code base, software developers require the skills to closely integrate with Windows. Administrators resent applications with obvious bugs, but they will also reject code that is difficult to administer, performs poorly, or dominates system resources. Programming Server-Side Applications for Microsoft Windows 2000 helps intermediate and advanced Windows programmers by covering a range of topics needed to develop reliable applications for Windows 2000. Readers should be familiar with C++ Windows programming and spend little time introducing basic concepts. Advanced readers will find this refreshing, while beginners should scurry off and bone up by reading the prequel, Jeffrey Richter's Programming Applications for Microsoft Windows. TagsDigraphs Theory Algorithms and Applications   [edit]

A handbook filling in a gap in the literature on the study of directed graphs. Presents a unified and comprehensive survey of the subject, covering theoretical and practical aspects, with algorithms, proofs, and applications of digraphs. Includes more than 700 exercises and 180 figures which further clarify topics. DLC: Directed graphs. The study of directed graphs has developed enormously over recent decades, yet no book covers more than a tiny fraction of the results from more than 3000 research articles on the topic. Digraphs is the first book to present a unified and comprehensive survey of the subject. In addition to covering the theoretical aspects, including detailed proofs of many important results, the authors present a number of algorithms and applications. The applications of digraphs and their generalizations include among other things recent developments in the Travelling Salesman Problem, genetics and network connectivity. More than 700 exercises and 180 figures will help readers to study the topic while open problems and conjectures will inspire further research. This book will be essential reading and reference for all graduate students, researchers and professionals in mathematics, operational research, computer science and other areas who are interested in graph theory and its applications.
