Professional Wikis explains how Wikis are emerging as the new means of content delivery and information sharing on the web. They have proven to be invaluable to web and application developers who employ them in collaborative development efforts. The book goes from the theory behind why wikis are successful and how user generated content delivers value to a business, to actual implementation. The book is rounded-out by advanced sections that cover scaling and social issues that are involved in real-world wiki management. It also explores the API of commercial wikis and integrating them with corporate infrastructure and expanding to application add-ons and database integration. There are five major sections: 1. An introduction to Wikis and a description of how businesses and organizations are using them to improve collaboration. 2. The second section provides a look and WikiMedia from the user's perspective: a how-to-guide for using collaboration tools to collaborate effectively in particular for development projects. 3. The third section gets into the technical nuts and bolts of installing and supporting the applications. 4. The fourth section delves into design and information architecture issues. The technology behind Wikis is simple - the challenge comes when trying to support them within a larger content management environment. The section examines best practices for organizing your sites, and takes a look at Semantic MediaWiki, which is a new project from the Wikimedia foundation that has been started in an effort to address this problem, based upon their experience managing the mother-of-all-Wikis Wikipedia. 5. The final section rounds out the discussion by providing specific examples of how businesses and organizations have implemented Wikis, the challenges they've faced and the successes they've enjoyed.

This textbook is written for advanced undegraduates or first year graduate students of mathematics and computer science. It is also intended for the working mathematician who wants to gain an appreciation of Mathematical Logic. There are no prerequisites for this book; however, some mathematical maturity is required. The book is written in a totally mathematical style, and any mathematician should feel at home reading this. The book starts with the definition of first order languages, proceeds through propositional logic, completeness theorems, and finally the two Incompleteness Theorems of Godel. In the process, the reader is also introduced to model theory and recursion Theory. After reading this book, the reader will be ready to branch into model Theory, recursion Theory, axiomatic set theory or even theoretical computer science.
Logic is a very profound subject, Godel's work being one the most remarkable discoveries in 20th-Century mathematics, having made an enormous impact on set theory, model theory as well as computer science. In spite of this impact, there exists a dearth of modern books which allow an aspiring mathematician to read and develop an appreciation for the subject. This book attempts to fill that gap by providing a short, distinctive, modern, and well-motivated introduction to mathematical logic. Read more...

As a computer book author, I strive not to be full of myself. I have no illusions that you plan on reading this book from cover to cover. I read sections and chapters out of order when I buy a computer book. Why would I expect you to approach my book any differently? And even if I read something in Chapter 2, who says I remember it when I read Chapter 11?
I write each section with these thoughts in mind. In the middle of Chapter 12, I might want you to remember some nugget of knowledge that I introduce in Chapter 4. If I use that nugget over and over again in Chapters 5, 7, 8, and 9, I don’t remind you about it in Chapter 12. But for other nuggets ones that you don’t read about repeatedly in this book I provide cross references.

Description: Assertion-based IP is much more than a comprehensive set of related assertions. It is a full-fledged reusable and configurable transaction-level verification component, which is used to detect both interesting and incorrect behaviors. Upon detecting interesting or incorrect behavior, the assertion-based IP alerts other verification components within a simulation environment, which are responsible for taking appropriate action. The focus of this book is to bring the assertion discussion up to a higher level and introduce a process for creating effective, reusable, assertion-based IP, which easily integrates with the users existing verification environment, in other words the testbench infrastructure.

Language Turned on Itself: The Semantics and Pragmatics of Metalinguistic Discourse
Language Turned on Itself: The Semantics and Pragmatics of Metalinguistic Discourse
Publisher: Oxford University Press, USA | 2007-11-02 | 148 pages | ISBN: 0199231192 | 1.8 MB Rapidshare&Megaupload
Language Turned on Itself examines what happens when language becomes self-reflexive; when language is used to talk about language. Those who think, talk, and write about language are habitual users of various metalinguistic devices, but reliance on these devices begins early: kids are told, 'That's called a "rabbit"'. It's not implausible that a primitive capacity for the meta-linguistic kicks in at the beginning stages of language acquisition. But no matter when or how frequently these devices are invoked, one thing is clear: they present theorists of language with a complex data pattern. Herman Cappelen and Ernest Lepore show that the study of these devices and patterns not only represents an interesting and neglected project in the philosophy of language, but also carries important consequences for other parts of philosophy. Part I is devoted to presenting data about various aspects of our metalinguistic practices. In Part II, the authors examine and reject the four leading metalinguistic theories, and offer a new account of our use of quotation in a variety of different contexts. But the primary goal of this book is not to promote one theory over another. Rather, it is to present a deeply puzzling set of problems and explain their significance

Albert C.J. Luo “Singularity and Dynamics on Discontinuous Vector Fields, Volume 3 ”
Elsevier Science | 2006-09-13 | ISBN:0444527664 | 310 pages | PDF | 5,4 Mb
This book discussed fundamental problems in dynamics, which extensively exist in engineering, natural and social sciences. The book presented a basic theory for the interactions among many dynamical systems and for a system whose motions are constrained naturally or artificially. The methodology and techniques presented in this book are applicable to discontinuous dynamical systems in physics, engineering and control. In addition, they may provide useful tools to solve non-traditional dynamics in biology, stock market and internet network et al, which cannot be easily solved by the traditional Newton mechanics. The new ideas and concepts will stimulate ones thought and creativities in corresponding subjects. The author also used the simple, mathematical language to write this book. Therefore, this book is very readable, which can be either a textbook for senior undergraduate and graduate students or a reference book for researches in dynamics.

There are many ways that a potential attacker can intercept information, or learn more about the sender, as the information travels over a network. Silence on the Wire uncovers these silent attacks so that system administrators can defend against them, as well as better understand and monitor their systems.
Silence on the Wire dissects several unique and fascinating security and privacy problems associated with the technologies and protocols used in everyday computing, and shows how to use this knowledge to learn more about others or to better defend systems. By taking an indepth look at modern computing, from hardware on up, the book helps the system administrator to better understand security issues, and to approach networking from a new, more creative perspective. The sys admin can apply this knowledge to network monitoring, policy enforcement, evidence analysis, IDS, honeypots, firewalls, and forensics.

Ethics, social responsibility, leadership, governance. These terms are heard in the classroom, in the boardroom, and viewed on the front page of newspapers and magazines. Yet serious attention to the relationships among these concepts is lacking. Although commitments to leadership, ethics, and social responsibility are evident, individuals and companies are falling short in combining these duties into policies and cultures that guide behavior and decisions. The missing element is a broad-based and integrated approach to responsible leadership and governance.
This volume provides the leading thinking on these issues and includes a discussion of emerging areas that require future attention. The contributors - leading scholars in the fields of leadership, governance and social responsibility - summarize the state of the literature, identify complementary insights and perspectives, discuss areas of conflict and disagreement, and include a provocative and stimulating agenda for further investigation. They point up practical consequences of these perspectives in light of developments that have exposed the shortcomings in practice. Several contributors focus specifically on the challenges faced by global companies in developing and maintaining leadership and governance practices that are responsive to different national institutional and cultural settings. Thorough coverage and insightful discussion make this an essential reference for scholars and students of leadership, corporate responsibility and professional ethics, as well as for all those directly responsible for establishing the ethical codes and practices of their organizations.

Written by a true authority in the field, Hung Q. Nguyen's Testing Applications on the Web is a nicely comprehensive guide to virtually every conceivable aspect of software testing. It's filled with must-have background information for any test engineer or manager who's testing thin-client systems.
Gray-box testing--a new means to test complex, distributed systems based on server-side components and browser-based clients--is the focus of the book. While, in the past, testers might have ignored certain aspects of stand-alone desktop software, today's Web-based software requires a thorough knowledge of every aspect of multitiered Web applications. To this end, the book surveys the basics of essential computing topics like thin-client computer architectures, networking (including a comprehensive introduction to TCP/IP and related standards), databases, and SQL.
This book also outlines the state of the art in software testing. Notable sections include a short guide to no fewer than 24 distinct types of software tests, how to test browser-based user interfaces effectively, and a thorough guide to Web-performance testing. The general discussion of testing methodology is anchored by a case study on actual test documents and tests for a Web-based software application (a tool for tracking software defects). The text closes with a survey of today's testing tools, and blank templates for creating your own test plans in the field.
With its expert's-eye view of what's involved in software testing, bolstered by real-world examples, Testing Applications on the Web proves itself an extremely worthwhile resource. --Richard Dragan

The guiding principles promoted in this book when creating an assertion-based IP monitor are:
modularityassertion-based IP should have a clear separation between detection and action
clarityassertion-based IP should be written initially focusing on capturing intent (versus optimizations)
A unique feature of this book is the fully worked out, detailed examples. The concepts presented in the book are drawn from the authors experience developing assertion-based IP, as well as general assertion-based techniques. Creating Assertion-Based IP is an important resource for design and verification engineers.
